A Journey of Flavor and Memory

Food is more than sustenance; it is community, memory, and culture.

For Amie Gaye, founder and owner of Binet’s African Groceries & More, that connection became the cornerstone of a mission to serve Snohomish County.

Originally from Kotu, The Gambia, Amie immigrated to the United States in 2003, carrying a deep appreciation for the rich culinary traditions of West Africa and the wider diaspora.

When she settled in Marysville in 2016, she quickly noticed a familiar challenge faced by many African families in the area: access to essential ingredients required long, recurring trips south to Everett or Lynnwood.

The routine became familiar.

Neighbors coordinated to borrow staples to avoid long drives, and often, beloved family recipes were put on hold simply because key items weren't available locally.

Amie recognized that convenience shouldn't come at the cost of culture, and no one should have to compromise on cooking the meals that feel like home.

Driven by entrepreneurial vision and community need, Amie set out to find a dedicated space in Marysville.

That journey led directly to State Avenue, where Binet’s African Groceries & More officially opened its doors.

“I am committed to perseverance and delivering results despite significant challenges.”
— Amie Gaye
